Chinese Divination: Hexagrams and Time-Based Charts

Chinese divination includes six-line casting and time-based charts. I Ching works with hexagram text; Liu Yao adds calendar relations; Qi Men uses a nine-palace arrangement.

Six-line approaches

An I Ching cast builds six lines, preserves changing lines and reads the resulting figures. Liu Yao adds branches, six relations and date context to those lines. Mei Hua derives trigrams and a changing line from numbers or time.

The Three Arts

Qi Men Dun Jia, Tai Yi and Liu Ren are distinct time-based systems with their own charting rules. A BaZi natal chart is another birth-time system and does not replace their time-and-palace arrangements.

Choose an actual question

A coin cast can begin with a question and six throws. A dated palace chart begins with a time and a named charting convention. Keep the inputs and output structure visible when comparing traditions.
