The two calculations
Nominal age equals the target lunar year minus the birth lunar year plus one. Birthday age counts completed Gregorian years, subtracting one if the birthday has not yet occurred in the target year.

A nominal-age answer changes at Chinese New Year even when the birthday is later. Zi Wei timing tables commonly use nominal age; match the chart’s age convention when comparing cycles.
